چکیده

We present an investigation of Hα emission line variations observed in the massive Algol binary, RY Per. We give new radial velocity data for the secondary Visiting Astronomer, Kitt Peak National Observatory, National Optical Astronomy Observatories, operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under contract with the National Science Foundation. Anisotropic mass ejection in binary mergers

We investigate the mass loss from a rotationally distorted envelope following the early, rapid in-spiral of a companion star inside a common envelope. For initially wide, massive binaries (M1+M2 = 20M⊙, P ∼ 10 yr), the primary has a convective envelope at the onset of mass transfer and is able to store much of the available orbital angular momentum in its expanded envelope. Three-dimensional SP...

A new mechanism for massive binary black hole coalescences

Massive binary black holes (BBHs) are inevitably formed in the merged galactic nuclei before the black holes finally merge by emitting the gravitational radiation. However, it is still unknown how a massive BBH evolves after its semi-major axis reached to the sub-parsec/parsec scale where the dynamical friction with the neighboring stars is ineffective (the so-called the final parsec problem). ...

Which Massive stars are Gamma-Ray Burst Progenitors?

The collapsar model for gamma-ray bursts requires three essential ingredients: a massive core, removal of the hydrogen envelope, and enough angular momentum in the core. We study current massive star evolution models of solar metallicity to determine which massive star physics is capable of producing these ingredients. In particular, we investigate the role of hydrodynamic and magnetic internal...

Evolution of Close White Dwarf Binaries

We describe the evolution of double degenerate binary systems, consisting of components obeying the zero temperature mass radius relationship for white dwarf stars, from the onset of mass transfer to one of several possible outcomes including merger, tidal disruption of the donor, or survival as a semidetached AM CVn system. We use a combination of analytic solutions and numerical integrations ...
